Walther to fulfill role following death of Treasurer Mark Lowery
Aug. 3, 2023 (Little Rock, Ark.) – Auditor of State Dennis Milligan, who served as Treasurer of State from 2015-2023, immediately prior to Treasurer Mark Lowery being elected, issued the following statement today upon Gov. Sarah Sanders’ appointment of Lowery’s replacement. Lowery passed away last week, and today the governor appointed Department of Finance and Administration Secretary Larry Walther to serve as the interim Treasurer until the next election:
“I applaud Gov. Sanders’ selection of Larry Walther to fulfill the remainder of Treasurer Lowery’s term,” Milligan said. “Lowery’s untimely death could not have been anything anyone planned for, but I know Larry will do a great job in serving the state.
“I worked with Larry during my tenure as Treasurer and know he brings a wealth of knowledge about state government and the importance of protecting the taxpayers’ dollars,” Milligan continued. “I look forward to working with him as a fellow Constitutional officer, and know he is inheriting a hardworking and dedicated staff that is committed to protecting the state’s investments and managing the day-to-day cash flows of state government.”
