The Data Processing Division is responsible for printing all of the warrants (checks) issued by the state of Arkansas. Acting as the state’s general accountant, the Auditor of State must maintain 183 state agency daily fund balances and make certain that each agency appropriation has a sufficient balance before the warrants are discharged.
These warrants have been printed and released by this division since October 1, 1836, with the original handwritten records stored on microfilm. Over the years the division has updated from handwritten warrants to using an IBM i-series mid-range computer system to help balance accounts and print checks. From July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011, the data processing division printed 3,060,966 warrants totaling $17,846,252,413. These warrants included general expenses, payroll and income tax returns.
